About Us

The Coast Guard Historical Society (CGHS) was created by a group of volunteers to educate the public regarding coast guard history.  Efforts concentrate on visually impactful displays at historical venues including and other information pieces.  Programs include:

  • Civil War Reenactments – A period tent is erected that displays Coast Guard participation in the Civil War through a series of displays, manned by volunteers in period uniform
  • Articles and Press Releases – The CGHS forwards press releases and articles to major news outlets on dates corresponding with historical events
  • Education programs for fund-raising
    • Book Sales – Coast Guard history books (some signed by the author) are available on the web site.
    • Ship and Shirt Sales – Historical ships on display and shirts are sold at historical venues, and through the web site.
